Digital archiving, curation, and digital rights all relate to each other in some way or another. Digital archiving is storing or placing information in an organized digital storage space. Curation is the process of organizing this information in a specific way, normally organized in a way that it easy to understand. Digital rights allow people to create and use digital media and access digital devices and networks. These all connect because of the act of digital curation. People are constantly organizing information in ways to make it easier for themselves and others to understand. They normally put this information into an archive by curating it, but while they are doing this, they need to know their digital rights. Where they are able to go and what they are able to access are important to know because not everything on the internet is legal for anyone to use. Things in a “public domain” are free for anyone and everyone to use for whatever purpose. Things that are not under that are either off limits, or you have to ask permission to use that digital information. This is the case with a lot of music and sampling. If an artist wants to use another artists music, they will need to get their permission and in most cases pay them for it. If an artist “steals” another’s music without permission, they are able to sue, in order to get that money or get the stolen music taken down.

Through out our lives, data is constantly being recorded. Companies, government, and even just singular people go around taking data from many different things. Some people do not even realize when data is being collected and recorded from them. This can really affect culture and how people live. If people know that someone is watching them, most of the time, they will not act the same as if they thought nobody was watching. It also affects us in what we see in our daily lives. Almost everything we do on the internet is recorded and used for advertisement purposes. Our data is sold to companies who then show us their own ads online, to make us more likely to buy or use what ever they are trying to promote/sell. Data collection is its own type of technology in a way because it is a type of knowledge used for a specific purpose. All technology has some sort of effect on us and culture. This specific technology has a great impact on peoples daily lives because there is no way anyone can avoid it.datacollectionpic

By looking at the relationship between technologies and culture, you can see that there is a lot of relation between the two. Any new form of technology has some sort of effect on culture, and the way people live and see things around us (the culture) effects which technologies are made and how we use the technology we already have. For example, the cell phone has had such an impact on humans by changing the way we do so many different things. The giant impact cell phones have had caused that industry to explode and constantly evolve. There are always new types of phones coming out with different features trying to appeal to costumers. The evolution of cell phones would not have happened if they did not become such a popular item to own.
